Stepfamily Life With the Taylors
Definition & Challenge
Few challenges in life are greater than bringing the pieces of two broken families together. Different backgrounds and experiences, multiple issues, past hurts, high hopes and pre-existing relationships join together and usually produce confusion and pain. You may be in a Stepfamily System and not even know it.
- Are you divorced with children and your ex-spouse is remarried?
- Are you remarried and one or both of you have children (in or out of the home)?
- Does your spouse have children (any age counts), and you don't?
- Do you have grandchildren from an adult child who is divorced, remarried, or whose ex-spouse is remarried?
- Do you have a family member in any of the above situations?
If you answered "yes" to the questions above, you are in a Stepfamily System.
- Thinking about getting remarried?
- Are you a professional who would like to deal effectively with Stepfamilies?
Knowing what to expect and what is normal for a stepfamily can reduce the pressure of unrealistic expectations. Understanding the territory and the skills required to negotiate the journey facilitates the new family's development and promotes more lasting success. The Taylors speak regularly on this topic and are available to work with you in your area to set up a Conference for Stepfamilies.
For Women Only With Carri Taylor
One of the biggest struggles women have is differentiating between taking care of others and taking care of themselves. Most all of us, male or female, get stuck in the way we see life and have difficulty getting into another person’s world. Your man will never be a better version of your best girlfriend. There will be things about him that you don’t get and things about you he won’t either. I’ve designed two workshops that address women’s issues.
Slices Of Life
Defining my past….Discovering or Rediscovering me….and Designing my future. This workshop will guide you through understanding how the people and events in your life have shaped you. You choose four different age segments (“slices”) of your life. By journaling the answers to three simple questions for each stage, you will be amazed at new insights you will have of yourself and those who have impacted you. You will leave with an action plan for your future.
Crossing the Street: Understanding Men
This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to see women through a man’s eyes. Differences in the male and female brains are explored in a fun and informative way. You will understand how these differences impact our relationships with men. The end result is a new appreciation for men and an effective way to approach and enjoy them!
Communication Skills Training With Carri Taylor
Most of us were never taught how to talk - or more importantly - how to listen. In fact, most of us don't listen, we wait to talk. And, when we don't get our "air-time" we may interrupt!
Many times we respond to what we think we are hearing, and then react from our own emotional triggers. This usually leads to misunderstanding and conflict. We listen for "what's in it for me?" rather than getting into the other person's world and finding out what I can learn about them.
Communication Impacts Every Area of Your Relationship
Communication skills are the process we use to deliver our content. Depending on the effectiveness of the process will determine the satisfaction of the interaction and whether we will strengthen or harm the relationship.
The courses engage all of your learning capacities and awaken awareness of yourself and others. It will be a new way to "do life." You can learn to drive safely on the communication freeway – especially in traffic. These are the different courses. Determine the best one for you.

Trouble Shooting Your Marriage
Would you start a trip to Philadelphia without a map or GPS, without having your car checked out, or finding out what kind of clothes you would need for weather in the east? Would you plan to retire at 65 without consulting a financial planner periodically to make sure you were saving and investing in a way that would make that possible?
Having a solid, fulfilling marriage doesn’t just happen, either, but many couples don’t know how to make sure they are handling their relationship in a way that will protect and enrich their marriage for the sake of all the “stakeholders” in that marriage.
The children you have, or will have, are truly “stakeholders” in your marriage. How you live your married life affects not only their childhood and adolescence, it impacts their perception of the responsibilities of adulthood, their value of commitment in general, and the respect they have for you as parents.
Most children view divorce as an act of selfishness on the part of their parents. The divorce rate for second marriages is even greater than the divorce rate for first marriages. Divorced parents have virtually no say in what goes on while the children are with the other parent.
The seminar, “Troubleshooting Your Marriage,” is powerful information that could be the most important investment in the lives and marriages of your Sunday school class members, congregants, or young adults’ and singles’ groups.
